FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT PROM
Who is responsible for organizing prom?
How is the cost of prom tickets determined?
o The cost of prom tickets is determined by adding up the cost to rent the prom location, catering costs, invitations, and prom favors and dividing this number by the number of students expected to buy tickets. The JR class also fundraises to contribute to the cost of prom and lower the cost of prom tickets. The JR class DOES NOT make any profit from the sales of prom tickets.o
Who is responsible for selecting the location for prom and when does this occur?
o JR class sponsors try to get student input for selecting the location of prom. Because we have to compete with other schools when selecting a prom date and location, we usually book a prom location and date 1 ½ to 2 years in advance which sometimes makes it difficult to obtain input from students who will be attending that prom.
What determines the location and date of prom?
o Factors that must be considering when selecting a location include capacity, parking, cost, safety, and availability of the facility. Since we are a large school, we are greatly limited in our selection. Prom is scheduled on a Saturday to reduce the number of student absences. We try to schedule prom when it will minimize conflict with AP testing or extra curricular activities.
Who selects the food for prom?
o The prom menu is selected by the JR class student government along with the SR class president. We try to cater to all student tastes and keep the menu affordable as well.
Why are tickets told a few weeks before prom and not earlier?
Students often change their prom dates even a few days before prom. For security reasons, we need to have an accurate list of each student attending prom and who he/she is bringing. If we sell tickets too early, it is very difficult for us to maintain a record of which students are coming if many of them change their dates.
Why do ticket sales end 3 days before prom?
o Caterers require a final head count 1 WEEK before prom and we must estimate our numbers based on ticket sales up to one week before. Once ticket sales have finished, a guest list must be compiled, non-HF guests must be cleared by the Deans’ office, and this list must be copied for check in. The 3 days allows us time to make adjustments with the caterer if needed and time to clear all students attending prom.
